Profile

Lily is an emerging artist currently based in Boorloo (Perth). Her practice encompasses ideas of corporeality, tangibility and bridging the connection between subject matter and viewer. By mining digital mapping platforms, such as google earth, Lily assembles scenes and tableaus of figures interacting with each other, their surroundings, and the viewer. Lily then translates these scenes to large-scale supports and uses the vibrancy and materiality of oil paint to construct images in a painterly, thick and fluid manner with an intensity of colour. Lily spends time with these figures, and aims to sculpt them through paint, utilising colours that are somewhat fantastical, artificial and surreal, to explore the way we are able to connect with the ‘other’ on a mere screen of blue light. Lily’s practise is an investigation of the way these platforms document temporalities that dismantle and converge, by examining the existence of the body within them.
