Tentative timelines
This is a series of paintings set on the island of Yunbenun (Magnetic Island) that explore temporalities, the idea of time and its connection to place.
Intersecting planes of time, fragmented memories, and the sensation of feeling submerged into a time that is not your own. i.e.: the sensation of photographic memories, are concepts that I intended to explore through paint. The works are based off of old and new family photos. The Yellow Ochre underpainting is left on view, to communicate this ‘fragmentation of memories’, but the fairly obvious application of paint, intersects the memory with the present context of the viewer.
